DANCE, DANCE, DANCE!
The team of the popular Vienna Dance Contest is organising the Dancing Tournament as their last one and will welcome you with love. We proudly announce that the European Same-Sex Dance Championships 2024, will be awarded during the dance competition, licensed by the European Same-Sex Dance Association (ESSDA). The event will be judged according to their rules.
For this special occasion, we have found the perfect venue: the Sofiensäle in Vienna, a stunning historic ballroom with a fantastic wooden sprung floor, pillars, a grand staircase, a bar with mirrors, and a gallery. Johann Strauss I performed there regularly and conducted at the opening ball of the house in 1848. You’ll be dancing where many of the Strauss family’s Waltzes were first performed.

The Ballroom Dancing/Dancesport categories of the tournament are Adult Standard (18+), Senior Standard, Adult Latin, Senior Latin (both in international style), Showdance Couples and Showdance Teams. The competitions will be held separate for male* (*=self identified) /nonbinary couples and for female*/nonbinary couples, including a combined Latin and Standard ranking. These Combination results will be calculated and the Champion titles awarded. With two short competition days we are very sorry that there won’t have not enough time to hold another four Combination competitions and Mixed Couples competitions.
During an initial qualification round the couples will be classified A, B, C, or D. We still ask you to provide your estimate of your level during registration so that we have a general idea how many participants from each level are attending.
The dance floor will measure 12 x 24.5 metres.
To compete as a Senior couple, the combined age of both partners must be at least 90 whereas the younger partner must be at least 40 years old on the day of the competition. For the Adult competitions you have to be 18+ on the day of the competition.
For Showdance Teams the registration has to be started by a team captain through filling in the registration form and choosing ‘team captain’ additionally or instead of ‘athlete’. The team captain creates the team and invites the other team members by filling in their email addresses.
Non-binary competitors may choose to enter either the Men’s or the Women’s categories, but the chosen dance-category gender must remain consistent throughout the competition. We recognise that the chosen dance-category gender of non-binary competitors does not necessarily reflect their gender identity, but rather reflects the competition in which they prefer to take part.

REGISTRATION
We recommend that the team captains register first and create the team name. Then the team members can be invited to the team.
If you are a team captain and an athlete too you do not have to register as an athlete for the team competition cause you can do that already as team captain.
For Ballroom Dancing Showdance Team competition you have to register separately in Ballroom Showdance – only for the TEAM.
